As the Senior Scientist, you are part of the Ingredient, Material and Nutrition Research & Development, Global Nutrition function. You bring deep technical knowledge into the fields of prebiotics and/or probiotics & the broader digestive health and leverage such insights into the creation of new concepts, technical innovations and provide scientific and technical inputs into business strategic exercises. In addition, as the senior scientist, you will provide scientific support to related product lines, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Affairs functions. You are expected to interact with other Research & Development functions such as Ingredient Chemistry, Bio-Research & Development and Process and Product Development technical experts from Cargill Starches, Sweeteners and Texturizers (CSST) Business Group.
You drive Cargill’s expansion in the Digestive Health category by expanding the knowledge and innovation pipeline.
You are Research Project Manager Nutrition & Health. This includes: work planning, resource allocation, budgeting, dissemination and intellectual property generation.
You are the technical lead in (cross-) Product Group projects.
You scout external technology with external partners and identify external subsidy opportunities.
You act as an expert in leading the technical part of projects and in contributing to external (multidisciplinary) consortia combined with good communication skills on research plans, results and conclusions.
You maintain and build internal and external technical/scientific networks (academic partners and industry peers) and act as an expert in technical meetings and workshops/ conferences.
You represent Cargill interests in external scientific forums, including scientific organizations and trade associations’ expert groups.
PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology (or related discipline).
5 years of industry experience.
Experience in project management.
Knowledge of experimental design, data interpretation and Intellectual property creation.
Understanding of human microbes ecologies and biostatistics, big data handling and high throughput technologies.
Problem solving skills.
Feel at ease working with ambiguous situations and ability to operate independently.
Able to work detail-oriented while not losing the big picture.
Technical/ scientific leadership skills.
Business alignment skills and commercial insight.
In-depth expertise in prebiotics and/or probiotics category.
Superior technical writing and communication skills.
PC literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Fluency in English is a must. Knowledge in Dutch or French is desired.
Creative, open minded, flexible, team player, and energetic.
Ability to travel 20%.
