Position Purpose & Summary:

Cargill's CSD Department offers the Managers the opportunity to develop thought and personal leadership capabilities by working with senior leadership in businesses and providing strategic advice on corporate development projects in a leading global company.

Who we are

CSD is Cargill's Corporate Strategy and Development department responsible for strategy development, mergers & acquisitions, and new business development at the corporate and business unit level. CSD has a dual mission to deliver impactful recommendations regarding Cargill's toughest business challenges, and to develop future business leaders. The CSD career path leads from Analyst to Associate to Manager based on performance, after which you are expected to either place into a frontline leadership role in one of Cargill’s businesses or continue within CSD to become Corporate Development Director.

Practice Areas

CSD team members are specialized in one of two practice areas: Corporate Strategy or Corporate Development. Corporate Strategy professionals focus on strategy development at the corporate level and work directly with Enterprise Strategy Leads at the Group and Business levels of the organization. Corporate Development professionals focus on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures (“MADJV”) at every level of the organization. Each individual’s assignments and experiences will be based on Cargill’s business needs, as well as personal capabilities and development goals

CSD EMEA office in Mechelen (Belgium) is currently recruiting a CSD Manager from an investment bank, private equity or a corporate development practice of a multinational for the Corporate Development practice area.

Principal Accountabilities:

50% Transaction Execution

  • Lead execution of multiple M&A projects across MADJV universe and manage teams that may consist of Corporate Development Analysts/Associates and/or members from the different businesses

  • Partner closely with Cargill’s Commercial Units to ensure best in class execution of M&A projects including but not limited to valuation, due-diligence, marketing, structuring, documentation, negotiation and integration

  • Coordinate with all stakeholders (internal and external) to drive efficient process, leveraging from known best practices

  • Help prepare acquisition proposals and support in recommending financial and nonfinancial strategic objectives and alternatives

  • Support Director/Managing Director on making key strategic decisions and in negotiations with counter-parties

20% Strategic Advisory

  • Provide strategic advice to senior business leaders on important strategic issues based on fact based analysis and relevant transaction knowledge with ability to develop clear recommendations

  • Partner with corporate and business strategy colleagues to develop target Gameboards and cultivate potential acquisition targets for Cargill

15% Talent Development

  • Provide guidance and coaching to Associates and Analysts in problem solving and process management

  • Participate and contribute to the CSD training activities

15% Corporate Development Practice

  • Drive best practice in knowledge management and contribute to other important initiatives

  • Work with the Corporate Development extended leadership team to develop the Corporate Development practice

  • Develop specific areas of technical expertise and global M&A knowledge

  • Contribute to recruitment and other engagement initiatives in the CSD team.


Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree from a globally reputable university with a superior academic track record

  • At least 4 to 6 years of post MBA or 7-10 years of post-undergrad M&A experience in an investment bank, private equity, or a corporate development function of a multi-national corporation

  • Track record of M&A deal executions with demonstrated technical skills including solid background of financial, structuring, due diligence, documentation, and negotiation aspects of transactions

  • Ability to think strategically and see the big picture

  • Leadership potential demonstrated through experiences to date

  • Strong team player and an ability to lead teams across diverse backgrounds and ability to work with other teams across functions and businesses on deals

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills in English. Ability to produce solid CxO level materials for both external and internal stakeholders

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Appetite for travel (mostly regionally)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA from a top globally recognized business school is preferred but not required

  • Full fluency (read/write/speak) in a major European language is preferred.
