Volvo Group Manager EU Public Affairs in Brussel, Belgium

The Group Representation EU office is Volvo’s centrally located corporate office in Brussels. Its overall objective is to support the Group’s business goals. Its mission is to:

  • Constantly build and maintain the Group reputation as a trustworthy partner of EU institutions and of EU decision-makers in its field of expertise. We act as an Embassy for the Group and hence conduct Business Diplomacy.

  • Enable the Volvo Group influence and advocacy at European Union level,

  • Enhance the visibility of the Group and its brands as appropriate, towards the EU stakeholders

  • Provide EU intelligence to the Volvo Group entities and coordinate EU Sustainability and Corporate Affairs within the CTO office.

Our dynamic and multi-cultural team is now looking for a new member to support our action; his/her responsibilities are:

  • to follow closely the development of all EU legislative issues relevant for the Volvo Group;

  • to primarily – but not exclusively - focus the Group lobbying actions towards the French EU stakeholders in Brussels by representing the Renault Trucks brand towards that specific target group.

The scope and influence of this function is both internal and external:

Internally, the job pre-supposes to monitor all EU regulatory issues relevant for the Volvo Group and to liaise with the corresponding experts, mainly in Gothenburg or in Lyon, to support establishing positions on EU issues for advocacy purposes.

Externally, the Manager drives lobbying activities towards the French EU stakeholders (European Parliament, French Permanent Representation, EC, MEDEF, CDPF, etc.) and thereby contributes to the Volvo Group political influence amongst the French, Brussels-based community.

Occasionally he/she is also called to give Group presentations to external visitors.

Main activities and responsibilities

  • Have a clear understanding of the decision-making process in the EU specifically, and at large, in the various international decision bodies affecting regulations;

  • Coordinate with Volvo Group experts on relevant EU issues by organizing joint meetings with MEPs or by creating speaking opportunities in Brussels in order to profile the Renault Trucks brand and products;

  • In close cooperation with the Director EU Public Affairs, analyse the impact of EU legislation on the Volvo Group’s activities and advise internally on related positions;

  • Participate in lobbying activities towards the European Parliament; organize briefings with Volvo Group experts before visiting external officials and/or before accompanying Volvo Group speakers to external events;

  • Contribute to enhancing Volvo Group visibility by attending external events like European Parliament hearings, and other EU stakeholders meetings and conferences.

Profile

  • University degree (Master) in Political Sciences/ EU Affairs is essential

  • 5 years of professional experience in EU Affairs

  • Very good knowledge of EU institutions, procedures and decision-making process

  • Excellent networker

  • At ease with, and enjoying working in an international environment

  • Excellent diplomatic and communication skills (both oral and written)

  • French mother tongue; perfect command of English; other European languages is an asset

The function is based in Brussels and will report to the SVP, Head of Volvo Group Representation EU office.
