As a Software Development Engineer you will help developing the next generation of medical genetics software that is intuitive and easy-to-use yet has the full power of cloud-based computing and scalability behind it.

The products you will be working on aim at enabling new discoveries, improving the quality of life, and fighting cancer.

You will be part of a fast growing and exciting division of Agilent Technologies whose culture is entrepreneurial, professional, and rooted in teamwork and innovation.

You will work with the UI/UX designer and bridge the gap between graphical design and technical implementation, taking an active role on both sides and defining how the application looks as well as how it works. It will be your responsibility to:

  • Develop software at the highest quality standard to deliver well-documented, future-proof, robust, and fully-tested software code that meets the standards of today’s industry-grade software engineering practices and those of Agilent Genomics' own quality standards defined by its Quality Management System.

  • Develop and maintain a rigorous software build and testing framework for continuous building and testing the developed software and keep track of failed builds and build issues.

  • Prepare software technical documentation based on functional documentation and specifications, taking into account any specified functional and technical requirements.

  • Be able to establish and document the impact and risks of code changes and new code implementations.

  • Prepare for daily stand-up meetings to track progress and discuss implementation issues.

Qualifications
  • University degree related to software development (or equivalent by experience).

  • You have the ability to implement user-friendly product functionality, with an eye for design, performance, and overall user experience.

  • Experienced in developing intuitive web-based applications using Java, Spring MVC, AngularJS, Vaadin

  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3 as well as client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery

  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX

  • Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them
