Kemin Customer Laboratory Services (CLS) teams are dedicated to providing customers with laboratory services tailored to meet each customer’s unique needs. The Senior R&D associate must haveexperience in product discovery and product development. The candidate must have experience in experimental design and interpretation of research results. They must demonstrate effective communication skills in presenting research results in small and large groups in a scientific and a commercial environment. Excellent writing skills and the demonstrated ability to make timely and logical decisions that meet the needs of the business is critical.


  • Daily management and accountability for successful execution of the Research and Development function

  • Develop, formulate and test new and improved products or processes within the framework of the Kemin Product Innovation Process (PIP)

  • Principal liaison between Marketing and R&D for the successful scientific support of regulatory and registration projects

  • Work in close collaboration with the CLS team to prioritize projects and registration activities

  • Work in concert with the Customer Laboratory Services (CLS) Manager to coordinate projects and assure timely completion and subsequent business development opportunities

  • Identify new product opportunities and support the application of current products

  • Cooperate on a worldwide basis with the other business units primarily on long term scientific projects, while also using synergies for medium and short term projects

  • Develop cooperative relationships with key academic individuals to strengthen product development and testing program

  • Work closely with Kemin’s corporate intellectual property protection function to secure proprietary positions on new products and ensure freedom to operate


  • PhD. in chemistry, bioscience engineering, or food science.

  • At least 2 years of broad scientific oriented experience and knowledge base and a proven track record of accomplishment in product commercialization

  • Provide leadership to set priorities, and meet timetables leading to the attainment of company’s strategic goals

  • Experience in dealing with challenging problems, setting strategies, prioritizing and implementing appropriate research programs toward regulatory approval and new product sales

  • Demonstrated project management skills, including organizational skills for project planning and execution

  • Experience in statistical analysis and technical writing

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are needed

  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with all levels. Experience in presenting at conferences, industry meetings and government agencies is a critical skill set.

  • A high degree of personal motivation, a desire to make an immediate contribution and a sense of urgency

  • Must be fluent in English

  • Willing to travel if needed.
