The Business Development Manager is the primary technical solution crafter to address Dimension Data client’s requests, understands both business and technical requirements and transforms them into commercial proposals

What you'll be doing


Staff: The Business Development Manager has no direct people reports but is directing the Client engagement with local teams and acts as mission owner for his/her particular practices and/or initiatives.

He/she is required to work closely with the regional and local Business Units, Sales teams, Professional Services, Managed Services and Admin functions.

He/she will be engaged with the Group solution owners as required and act as a SME (subject matter expert) for the local teams.

Others: The Business Development Manager will focus on supporting technical solution development based on Dimension Data Sales requirements and high level inputs of Group teams. He/she will be working closely with their peers (Solutions Architects, Enterprise Architects and other Business Development Managers) to contribute to cross-BU architecture development.

He/she is expected to support the BID management process and will deeply contribute to the creation of technical documents in order to raise the quality of Dimension Data proposals to the next level.

He/she will also take an active part in new technology evaluations, LABs, POCs and Cross-BU solutions development and testing.

What would make you a good fit for this role?


Subordinates: Currently, there are no direct reports.

Superior(s): Direction, performance monitoring and coaching will be provided via consultation with the European Networking Director on a frequent basis. Weekly conversations will cover short-term objectives and performance and monthly reviews will provide review of mid-term objectives in the previous periods and planning for subsequent periods. Formal reviews will be held twice a year to cover overall performance for the year.

Other Contacts within the organisation : The European Business Development Manager will have to work in partnership with his peers at both a Group level and Country level as well as Professional/Managed Services and Sales units.

Outside the organisation : The Business Development Manager is expected to maintain relationships with our strategic vendors as well as any community groups where Dimension Data presence/participation is aligned with our objectives.


(Knowledge, skills, experience necessary to enable satisfactory performance in the job)

  • Significant background and a minimum 15+ years’ experience in Networking

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of relevant technologies supporting our primary practices of Wired and Wireless, hybrid WAN and Data Centre Networking

  • A strong specific knowledge and experience around Software Defined Infrastructure

  • Experience with Network automation, software development, programming and scripting will be a strong asset

  • Consultative experience and attitude; experience in developing technical solutions

  • Strong communication skills – both written, oral and presentation in English, other European languages being a strong asset

  • Experience and ability to lead a project involving other technology competencies

  • European market understanding

  • Able to drive consulting engagements, help designing and running proofs of concepts

  • Hold industry certifications, accreditations or specialisations and willingness to maintain and broaden them

  • Team worker, performance driven individual

  • Good sense of humour, easy going, open and frank to individuals

  • Ability to work under tight time pressure, strong sense of priority management
